TRAIL DONUTS

Good for long walks with a friend

Silicone trays in any shape are an exciting improvement to my bar making. They used to crumble in the cutting process. (Mom sent me donut-shaped trays to make the “sushi donut” trend so I gave them a double use!)

1 Good Hunk of Peanut Butter

Use natural peanut butter brands or the kind you grind at the store. It’s stickier. And less sugar and sodium. Use most of the 16oz container. Save some for bananas and sandwiches.

1 1/2 Cups Oats and Granola

Old-fashioned oats work best. Sprinkle some granola throughout, if ya like.

1/2 Cup Maple Syrup

Cover the oats and see how you feel. It’s gotta stick together but not too wet. Like Play-Doh.

Fun add-ins

I add Sweetened Coconut Flakes, mixed nuts (must smash nuts.), dried berries, chocolate… change it up. Keeps it exciting.

Mix

A metal spoon might help to fold it all in. Think: *chop and fold*

Spoon it into the mold

Hands and spoons work best. I sit and watch a DVD while I press the mixture into the silicone. I squish it against the edge and make sure it’s all molded passionately.

Chill in the fridge

    Overnight or longer

Wrap in cute little wax paper

I try to reuse these to reduce waste. Sometimes they're sticky. Sometimes they’re dry. But they’re always a delicious thing I’m glad I have in my bag. And bring on adventures to share.
